Last month, Jai embarked on the project of installing a new hot water heater in our home – a first for both of us. We anticipated it being a big project, and while it is a lot of work to move and install large appliances – especially when it involves plumbing! – this actually went more smoothly than anticipated. Jai learned some new skills from this project, which took about 2 days to complete from start to finish. Jai wanted to share a helpful tip on how to drain a hot water heater, so he filmed a short video for those of you who are about to install a new hot water heater in your own home. 1. Funny how we don’t think about those little things, huh? Whenever I change the filters in my reverse osmosis system, I forget they are filled with water and make a huge mess. I can only imagine the mess I would make with a hot water heater. LOL

  2. Really useful information here! I needed to do this when we were told our water heater was about to (more or less) explode and we needed to get the water out while waiting for someone to come and install the new one.

  3. I remember how terrifying it was when I was younger and our hot water heater exploded! It was terrifying! I thought out entire house was going to blow up. Afterwards, my mom had no idea how to drain what was left of the water. This is handy.

  4. My tip? Have my hubby do it. He knows how to do that stuff. I’m better at the purchase end of the arrangement

  5. Thanks for sharing. I have never drained a hot water heater and hope I never have too. But it’s old so I know I will have to eventually.

  6. We just replaced our hot water heater and I wish I had watched our plumber do it so we might be able to do some ourselves the next time we need to do maintenance. Thanks for the video!

  7. Una vez que la persona con la que convives sabe tu problema, y después del shock inicial, seguro que encuentras su ayuda. Este problema puede ser de naturaleza temporal o permanente.
