Last month, Jai embarked on the project of installing a new hot water heater in our home – a first for both of us. We anticipated it being a big project, and while it is a lot of work to move and install large appliances – especially when it involves plumbing! – this actually went more smoothly than anticipated. Jai learned some new skills from this project, which took about 2 days to complete from start to finish. Jai wanted to share a helpful tip on how to drain a hot water heater, so he filmed a short video for those of you who are about to install a new hot water heater in your own home. You can also get a look at our sleek new Rheem Marathon Hot Water Heater!

Do you have any hints for installing a hot water heater?
Seems pretty simple….!!
Wow – this is very informative. Who knew it was so simple?
Funny how we don’t think about those little things, huh? Whenever I change the filters in my reverse osmosis system, I forget they are filled with water and make a huge mess. I can only imagine the mess I would make with a hot water heater. LOL
Really useful information here! I needed to do this when we were told our water heater was about to (more or less) explode and we needed to get the water out while waiting for someone to come and install the new one.
This is, of course, if it doesn’t do like ours and rust out the bottom and drain itself!!
This is so good to know! I’m saving this to show my husband.
GREAT to know and totally sharing this with my husband this will be us soon! 🙁
I remember how terrifying it was when I was younger and our hot water heater exploded! It was terrifying! I thought out entire house was going to blow up. Afterwards, my mom had no idea how to drain what was left of the water. This is handy.
Thank You On The How To Drain Your Water Heater It’s Not So Hard To Do Thought It Would Be Difficult… Great Brand Of Products!!
Hubby says I’m real good at draining these already :p I’d be lost if I had to do something like this on my own.
The only hint I would have is to find a good plumber. 🙂

My tip? Have my hubby do it. He knows how to do that stuff. I’m better at the purchase end of the arrangement
Seems simple enough. I haven’t taken on a DIY project like that one
This is certainly a good thing to know how to do. But I hope I don’t have to do it on my own ever.
Good to know! I hope to not have to worry about it but thanks for the video just in case!
Man, I would be completely lost when it comes to these kinds of things! I just let my husband take care of it!
Thanks for sharing. I have never drained a hot water heater and hope I never have too. But it’s old so I know I will have to eventually.
Thank you for making a video of this! We’ve had ours leak a couple times and…..ya, draining sucks.
I hope I never have to do it, but this will come in real handy if I have to. Thanks!
I dont know why this is so intimidating to me! I think I would be to anxious to do it myself. Cool that you two did it yourselves!
Things like this make me happy we still rent 🙂 lol!
We just replaced our hot water heater and I wish I had watched our plumber do it so we might be able to do some ourselves the next time we need to do maintenance. Thanks for the video!
This is great info to have on hand, especially since I`m not that handy 😉
